Application Details for Students in Hungary

The GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program in Hungary is a unique program that provides financial support and skills development opportunities for accomplished second-year undergraduate students from recognized institutions who are pursuing degrees in the fields of economics, management, engineering or technology at the specific universities listed below.

Why Apply?

  • Annual EUR 1,500 scholarship for up to two years (depending on course of study*)
  • An opportunity to be mentored by a GE business leader
  • Participation in GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders activities, including a specially designed leadership development seminar
  • Participation in community service projects

*Note: Please include in your application whether you intend to continue your studies in a Master’s program after finishing the Bachelor level. You can apply even if you do not plan to continue your studies after you have finished the Bachelor level, however, you will receive only one year of funding.

Who Can Apply?

Only applicants who meet the eligibility criteria described below will be considered for the award competition. Please read carefully.

Students must be attending the following institutions to be eligible to apply:

  1. Corvinus University of Budapest
  2. Budapest University of Technology and Economics
  3. University of Miskolc
  4. University of Pécs
  5. University of Pannonia, Veszprém

Further Requirements Include:

  • High academic standards, as demonstrated by grades received in the first two semesters of your university studies. (In order to continue receiving the annual financial award, you will be expected to maintain these high standards for the duration of this scholarship.)
  • Strong oral and written English language skills
  • Full-time student status
  • Currently pursuing a degree in the field of economics, management, engineering or technology
  • Currently pursuing your first undergraduate degree*

*Note: Please include in your application whether you intend to continue your studies in a Master’s program after finishing the Bachelor level. You can apply even if you do not plan to continue your studies after you have finished the Bachelor level, however, you will receive only one year of funding.

How to Apply?

If you satisfy all eligibility criteria outlined above, click on the link at the bottom of the page and complete the online application. The application form including essay must be submitted online by 11:59pm EST on March 5, 2012. All Supporting Documentation must be posted by March 5, 2012 to:

Supporting Documentation – In addition to your application form, the following documentation is required:

  1. Certification Page with original signature (downloaded from online application)
  2. A 1000-word essay (part of the application form)
  3. A curriculum vitae
  4. First two semesters university results (if available) – official copy, may be sent directly by university
  5. Two letters of recommendation (see instructions on form which can be downloaded from the online application). The original recommendation letter should go in the first set of applications containing the original documents.

Applicants must submit 4 complete copies (1 original, 3 photocopy) of the application (except for letters of recommendation). Each set must be compiled in the order as described above.

English translations must accompany any documents not in English. Unofficial translations are accepted.

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 5, 2012.

Incomplete application materials or application materials postmarked after March 5, 2012 will not be considered. Application materials will not be returned to applicants.

What is the Selection Procedure?

A selection committee will evaluate all applications. Each applicant’s motivation and academic and leadership potential will be assessed. The selection committee will select semifinalists, who will be invited to a personal interview with a selection panel. You will be informed in April 2012 about the success of your application. Selection decisions are final. There is no appeal process.
