Who is eligible to apply?
Only applicants who meet the eligibility criteria described below will be considered for the award
Aboriginal peoples who:
- Are Canadian residents
- Are first-year full-time undergraduate students at a recognized Canadian university
- Are studying engineering or business/management
- Have high academic performance, as demonstrated by first semester university results and high school transcripts.
- Demonstrate financial need
What is the deadline for the Canada Program Application?
April 13, 2012.
All Supporting Documents must be received via postal mail at this time. The online application system will close at 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on April 13, 2012. No applications may be initiated or edited after that time.
If I start an online application, can I save it and finish it at a later time?
Yes. In order to submit your application, you must complete all required fields. When there is a check mark next to each of the online sections, you may submit your application. Until you click on the submit button, your application will remain available for editing. Once you have clicked the submit button, your application will be transmitted and you will not be able to return to it for editing. You may be able to return to your application to review each section and print the Certification Page and Letter of Reference Forms.
Once I complete the online application, do I need to do anything else?
Yes, if you submit an online application, you should receive a confirmation by e-mail that your application was transmitted. Then you must mail to IIE a package including all of the following:
- Certification Page (signed & dated)
- High school transcripts – official copy, may be sent directly by high school
- First semester university results (if available) – official copy, may be sent directly by university
- Two letters of recommendation with accompanying Form (see instructions on Form which can be downloaded from the online application)
- Proof of Aboriginal ancestry
– photocopy of Band/Treaty card; Métis membership card; Inuit Beneficiary card. Students who are non-status First Nation may send a photocopy of the band card issued to parent or grandparent
Where can I find the required Reference Form & Certification Page?
Both of these documents are available online and may be downloaded in PDF form directly from the website. They can be found by logging-in to your application profile and using the side-bar links on the right side of the page. The documents can be accessed even after the online application form has been submitted.
Do I have to send a reference?
Yes. The reference forms that accompany the application are required. They can be completed by a teacher, counselor, employer, etc. who is familiar with your academic record and/or work and volunteer experience. These references will provide the selection committee with additional information about you when reviewing your application.
A reference letter should be attached to each form. If a form is not complete, your reference letter will not be considered. Please send only TWO reference letters. Any additional letters will not be considered.
As stated on the reference form, the reference will be kept strictly confidential and must be given to you in a sealed envelope by the referrer. Mail the reference letter to IIE in the sealed envelope with your other supporting documents.
How do I send in my signature?

How will I know if my application and supporting documents were received?
IIE will send a confirmation via e-mail ti the valid e-mail address provided in your application.
Please be advised that due to the volume of application submission activity, IIE staff cannot verify receipt of applications and supporting documentation via telephone inquiry.
Note: If you submit an online application, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail that your application was transmitted, but this does not constitute a complete application package. You must send in your supporting documents by April 13, 2012; you will then receive confirmation of a complete package as stated above.
PLEASE NOTE: IF CONFIRMATION THAT YOUR APPLICATION PACKAGE IS COMPLETE DOES NOT ARRIVE FROM IIE WITHIN THREE WEEKS OF SUBMISSION, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FOLLOW UP WITH IIE.
When will I be notified of the results?
IIE will notify all applicants of their status using the contact details provided in the application.
Please expect your Notification Letter to arrive in June 2012.
